LWVGGB Faius state of wisconsin with stars stripes bannerr Voting Maps (Redistricting) Committee has been extremely busy this summer preparing for our August 9 appearance at the Wednesday Farmers' Market on Broadway. Volunteer to help at the Fair Voting Maps tent that Wednesday or stop by to pick up your Fair Voting Maps buttons. Our tent will be in front of Beerntsen Candy. Come and see the awesome poster designed by Linda Van Beek and find out why Arnold Schwarzenegger supports non-partisan redistricting.

In addition the committee is partnering with Citizen Action in Green Bay to persuade the Brown County Board that we need a resolution from the board to the state legislature in support of a non-partisan process to draw legislative district lines after the 2020 census. The committee is also working to get agreement from both the Green Bay City Council and the County Board that citizens should have a role in the drawing of district lines at the local level as well.

Join us! All are welcome. Anneliese Waggoner, Fair Voting Maps Chair

Volunteer or visit us on Wednesday, August 9 at the Fair Voting Maps Booth during the Farmer's Market on Broadway. League wants to spread information about fair voting maps which would insure that every person's vote counts. We are concerned about the current process of gerrymandering and this is an opportunity to inform the public about how to support changes in the law that would insure redistricting is a fair impartial process. To volunteer contact Barbara Brown at or 920-336-6098.

Save 7:00 PM Tuesday, September 26 for Turbocharge this informational program, organized by the Education Committee for our members and the public, is about a new Green Bay Area Public Schools' program. Read more about this event in the article below.

The board will not meet in August. Our next meeting will be Monday, September 11th. Members are always welcome at board meetings.

Julie Arneth, LWVGGB President

The Education Committee has scheduled a meeting to discuss a new and creative educational effort called Turbocharge for Tuesday evening, September 26 at 7:00 PM. This free informational program will be presented for both our League members and our community in the Brown County Central Library auditorium. The presenters for the evening will be Dr. Jeff Rafn, NWTC President, Dr. Michelle Langenfeld, Superintendent of the Green Bay Area Public Schools, and UWGB Chancellor Gary Miller.

Turbocharge is a K-16 partnership between Green Bay Area Public Schools, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay with a shared transformational vision to create a college going culture. It is an intentional effort by the partners to successfully transition high school graduates to post-secondary education by having them earn college credit towards a certificate, credentials, or degree upon graduation.

Judy Crain, Education Committee Chair

Clean Bay Backers, a group of public, private, LWVGGB, and other non-profits will invite local community decision-makers, area state and federal legislators, educational leaders, county elected officials, and specific interested groups to participate in a NEW event on 25 September. Clean Bay Backers promotes community awareness of water/environmental issues. This program will focus on Waterfront Revitalization through Restoration. Two 55 passenger buses will tour four different areas calling participant attention to the work that has been done, work in progress, and significant challenges that face us. Although this is not a LWVGGB program, LWVGGB Clean Bay Backer members will participate.

In addition, LWVGGB members will discuss the Lake Michigan watershed project. The LWVGGB is teaming up with LWV Lake Michigan Region (LWVLMR) and LWVWI to update watershed fact sheets that were initially developed by the EPA, disseminate the fact sheets, and conduct activities to educate citizens living in the watersheds to help our community become more effective stewards of Lake Michigan.
